Best Midjourney Alternatives in 2026: Free and Cheaper AI Image Generators

The best Midjourney alternatives in 2026 are the ones with a free plan, because Midjourney itself has no free plan: its cheapest option is Basic at $10 a month ($8 a month on yearly billing). Leonardo.Ai gives 150 fast tokens every day with commercial use allowed, Adobe Firefly has free daily generations, Recraft gives 30 credits a day, Dreamina gives 120 credits a day, and Ideogram and Krea have free plans plus cheap yearly upgrades (Krea Basic from $5.25 a month).

Quick answer: for free images you can use commercially, start with Leonardo.Ai. For text inside images (posters, logos, social graphics), try Ideogram. For vectors and brand-style graphics, Recraft. For the cheapest paid plan, Krea Basic at $5.25 a month on yearly billing. If you want Midjourney's look, pay yearly and save 20%.

Midjourney's own prices

From Midjourney's plan comparison, October 2026. Yearly billing takes 20% off every plan; see our Midjourney deal. Stealth mode is only on Pro and Mega, and Midjourney's terms say companies with more than $1,000,000 in yearly revenue need Pro or Mega.

Midjourney alternatives compared

As of October 2026, from each company's own pages. Current offers: Leonardo.Ai free plan, Adobe Firefly, Recraft free plan, Ideogram Plus, Krea Basic and Dreamina.

Leonardo.Ai: the best free alternative

Leonardo.Ai's free plan refills 150 fast tokens every day for image (and some video) generation, and commercial use is allowed even on the free tier. That's rare: most free plans are for personal use only. Paid plans are about 20% cheaper on yearly billing; check Leonardo's pricing page for current plan names and prices, which have changed recently.

Choose it if you want free images you can use in work projects.

Adobe Firefly: free daily images from Adobe

Adobe Firefly gives free daily generations with an Adobe account; paid Firefly plans add monthly credits for premium features. It fits naturally if you already use Photoshop, Express or other Adobe apps. Students should also look at the Adobe Creative Cloud student discount.

Choose it if you work in Adobe's apps.

Recraft: vectors and brand-style images

Recraft's free plan renews 30 credits every 24 hours with all creation tools, including vector and brand-style images. Free images are public and not for commercial use. Paid plans start at $10 a month billed yearly (up to 20% off) and add a commercial license.

Choose it if you design icons, logos, illustrations or social graphics that need a consistent style.

Ideogram: when you need text in the image

Ideogram is known for putting readable text into images: posters, thumbnails, logos and social posts. The free plan comes with weekly credits, and Ideogram Plus is $15 a month on yearly billing instead of $20 (25% off).

Choose it if your images need words that are spelled correctly.

Krea: the cheapest paid plan

Krea's free plan gives daily compute units with no card needed. Krea Basic costs $5.25 a month on the yearly plan instead of $9 monthly (about 40% off), the lowest paid price in this list.

Choose it if you want a cheap paid plan for regular use.

Dreamina: images and video, free every day

Dreamina, from the makers of CapCut, generates images, videos and talking avatars, and free users get 120 credits every day. How far they go depends on the model, length and resolution you pick. See our free AI video generator guide for more daily-credit tools.

Choose it if you want both images and short videos without paying.

What a year costs

How to choose

• Free, with commercial use: Leonardo.Ai.
• Text inside images: Ideogram.
• Vectors and brand graphics: Recraft (paid for commercial use).
• Cheapest paid plan: Krea Basic, yearly.
• Already use Adobe: Firefly.
• You love Midjourney's style: Midjourney, yearly billing (20% off).

Before you use AI images commercially

• Read the license on your plan. Some free plans (like Recraft's) are non-commercial, and some make your images public.
• Check company-size rules. Midjourney requires Pro or Mega for companies over $1,000,000 in yearly revenue.
• Avoid real brands, people and trademarks in commercial images.

Real-world examples: which image tool fits?

• A small business making social posts: Leonardo.Ai's free plan for images you can use commercially, or Ideogram if the posts need readable text.
• A designer making icons and illustrations in one style: Recraft, on a paid plan for the commercial license.
• A blogger who needs a cover image now and then: Adobe Firefly's free daily generations or Leonardo.Ai's free tokens.
• A creator who also wants short videos: Dreamina's 120 daily credits cover both images and video.
• An artist who loves Midjourney's look: stay with Midjourney and switch to yearly billing to save 20%.
• Someone on a tight budget who generates every day: Krea Basic at $5.25 a month on yearly billing.

How we compared these tools

We used only prices and limits published on each company's own pricing, help or documentation pages, in US dollars, as of October 2026. Where a company's plan names or prices were changing and we couldn't confirm the current figure (as with Leonardo.Ai's paid tiers), we describe the plan without a price instead of guessing. Free-plan rules such as commercial use and public images come from the same official pages, and they matter as much as the price.

Bottom line

Midjourney starts at $8 a month on yearly billing, but you can get great images for $0: Leonardo.Ai for free commercial use, Firefly, Recraft and Dreamina for daily free credits, and Ideogram for text in images. When you do pay, Krea Basic at $5.25 a month is the cheapest plan we've verified. All current offers are on our image and video deals page, and our AI video generator pricing guide covers video tools.
