Copilot Pro Price in 2026: What Replaced It and the Cheapest Way to Get Copilot
ScoviAI TeamUpdated 5 min read

The short answer
Microsoft no longer sells Copilot Pro on its own. Microsoft 365 Premium replaced it at $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year, bundling Office, family sharing and the highest Copilot limits. Microsoft 365 Personal includes Copilot in the apps for $99.99 a year. The Copilot Pro price question has a new answer in 2026: Microsoft no longer sells Copilot Pro as a standalone subscription. It was replaced in October 2025 by Microsoft 365 Premium, which costs $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year and combines everything in Microsoft 365 Family with Copilot Pro's AI features and the highest Copilot usage limits. If you need less AI, Microsoft 365 Personal includes Copilot in the Office apps for $99.99 a year.
Quick answer: for one person who wants Copilot in Word, Excel and Outlook, Microsoft 365 Personal at $99.99 a year is the cheapest route. If you used to pay for Copilot Pro, or you want the most Copilot usage, Microsoft 365 Premium at $199.99 a year is its replacement. Students and teachers can use Copilot Chat free through Office 365 Education.

What happened to Copilot Pro?
Copilot Pro launched as a $20-a-month add-on that brought Microsoft's best AI models and higher limits to the Copilot app and Office. In October 2025 Microsoft introduced Microsoft 365 Premium, which bundles Microsoft 365 Family with Copilot Pro's features for $19.99 a month, the same price people paid for Copilot Pro alone, and stopped selling standalone Copilot Pro to new customers.
In practice, that's a better deal: for the old price of the AI add-on, you now get the Office apps, storage and family sharing too.

Microsoft 365 Premium: what you get
Microsoft 365 Premium is Microsoft's top plan for individuals and families:
- Everything in Microsoft 365 Family: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and storage for up to six people.
- Copilot Pro features, with the highest usage limits Microsoft offers to consumers, in the Office apps and the Copilot app.
- AI agents that can take on more complex tasks for you.
- Extensive usage for AI image creation in Copilot.
Price: $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year, which saves about $40. Note that the extra Copilot usage is for the subscription owner; family members get the standard Microsoft 365 benefits.
Microsoft 365 Personal: the cheaper way to get Copilot
Most people don't need Premium's limits. Microsoft 365 Personal includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, cloud storage and Copilot features in the apps for one person, at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year. That's about $8.33 a month on the yearly plan, roughly the price of ChatGPT Go, with Office included.
If you share with family, Microsoft 365 Family is $129.99 a year for up to six people.
Free Copilot options
- The Copilot app is free for basic chat with a Microsoft account.
- Office 365 Education is free for students and educators with a school email, and it includes Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat with data protection for school accounts, plus web versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.
- Copilot Chat for work: people with an eligible Microsoft 365 work or school account can use Copilot Chat at no additional cost.
Copilot vs ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini on price
At $19.99 a month, Microsoft 365 Premium costs the same as ChatGPT Plus and Google AI Pro, but it includes the Office apps and family sharing. If you'd pay for Office anyway, it's the best value of the $20 plans. If you don't use Office, a dedicated assistant is usually better: Claude Pro is $200 a year, and ChatGPT Go is $8 a month. Which Microsoft plan should you choose?
- You only want to chat with Copilot: the free app.
- Student or teacher: Office 365 Education, free.
- One person who uses Office and wants AI help in it: Microsoft 365 Personal, $99.99 a year.
- A family: Microsoft 365 Family, $129.99 a year.
- Heavy Copilot user or former Copilot Pro subscriber: Microsoft 365 Premium, $199.99 a year.
What former Copilot Pro subscribers should do now
If you had Copilot Pro before it was replaced, check your Microsoft account's subscription page to see what your plan is called today and what it costs at renewal. Then decide:
- You mainly used Copilot in Word and Outlook: Microsoft 365 Personal at $99.99 a year may be enough, and it costs half as much as Premium.
- You used Copilot all day, including image creation: Microsoft 365 Premium keeps the highest limits.
- You never used the Office apps: compare with a dedicated assistant before renewing; ChatGPT Go costs $8 a month and Claude Pro $200 a year.
Common mistakes with Microsoft 365 and Copilot
- Paying for Premium when Personal is enough. Start with Personal and upgrade only if you keep hitting Copilot's limits.
- Paying monthly for a full year. Twelve months of Premium on monthly billing cost $239.88; the yearly plan costs $199.99.
- Buying a personal plan when your school or employer already gives you Copilot Chat. Check your work or school account first.
- Forgetting the renewal date. Yearly plans renew automatically; set a reminder a week before.
How to check which Microsoft plan you have
- Sign in to your Microsoft account on the web.
- Open Services & subscriptions.
- Look for the plan name (Personal, Family or Premium) and the renewal date and price.
- If you see a plan you don't recognize or don't use, turn off recurring billing before the renewal date.
Doing this once a year takes two minutes and is the easiest way to avoid paying for an AI plan you no longer need.
Tips to pay less for Copilot
- Pay yearly. Every plan is about 17% cheaper on annual billing.
- Start with Personal. Upgrade to Premium only if you keep hitting Copilot's limits.
- Use your school or work account. You may already have Copilot Chat for free.
- Share Family or Premium. Up to six people can use the apps on one plan.
